The first time you've written a poem it is usually for your self or just something you wanted to get out or off your chest. Maybe it was for someone you fell in love with or maybe for someone you were leaving.
Well that one poem,Short story or even blog sparked the writer in you and you want to share all the magnificent things you have written or created. There is only one problem, "Where to put your poem and how to get people to read your poetry"?
Step 1)
Write your poem, short story or article and make sure you spell check and proof read your work. So often people misspell as I'm sure I have done so many times and then posted it. Spelling matters and the way a document is written matters. Not only does a poem or story have to be interesting to you it has to be interesting to your readers and your ever growing fan club.
Step 2)
Find a site such as WWW.POETRYSCRIBER.COM that allows for freedom of expression and Freedom of Speech. There are sites out there that like to control the content on their sites and can sometimes delete the wonderful scribe you have pulled out of your head and so tediously created. "Zap", its gone and there is no getting it back. When you Join a group such as Poetryscriber you will be among many writers who have the same interests in writing as you do so you can expect an instant audience.
Step 3)
Calling a site home for your work gives you an opportunity to back up and store your work so you never have to worry about losing what you have created. If your home computer crashes you can easily retrieve your work from your poetry site and bring it back to your computer. Never trust 1 site not even your home computer, that's why you have to keep a backup. It took along time to create your Art so take a little time to protect it.
Step 4)
"Get Involved"! The more you read fellow poets scribes and short stories the more they will read yours. If the site you write at allows see if you can become a weekly columnist or editor to help the site out and draw even more attention to your writing. Those who get involved get noticed and are appreciated. The rewards for thinking of others will pay ten fold back with others thinking of you.
Step 5)
"Make Friends"! When you make friends then your audience grows and so does the readership and the guidance. Your work will be critiqued the way it should be instead of the typical one liner such as, "good poem". Friends will help you anchor your writing to one place which you will grow at. As long as your talking to one another and going to the site each day your presence will continue to blossom.
Step 6)
Promote your new poetry home on Myspace,Yahoo 360,Reviewme,Blogger and etc..Try posting news about the site you write at and what you love about it. Put partial poems up and create links to where your poetry resides. If you don't know how to do this then ask at your poetry site and I'm sure they will help you. Be patient learning to do this takes a little time and patience.
Step 7)
Keep it fun! Always enjoy what your doing and look at it as a challenge. Some things maybe difficult but when you over come them you will grow with the experience. Your this far because you enjoy writing so make sure you at least write 1 poem a day to a poem a week. Create from your heart and soul and make the reader feel what you feel. When they comment on your works negatively or positively thank them. "It is better to be read then to not be read at all"! That's how you learn to write better so take your readers seriously and again have fun with it...
